Posting a Job for Grads

Advertising a Job with Online Job Sites

Online job boards are cheaper than traditional recruiting methods. Newspaper advertisements are expensive, and they usually do not attract many applicants. Online employment websites usually attract thousands of applicants. Career sites usually offer inexpensive advertising packages. Career boards can also help employers avoid expensive recruitment agencies. Here are a few ways you can increase your chances of finding qualified applicants.

Posting a Job for Grads

List the Qualifications

Millions of college graduates are looking for jobs, so you should only hire the best applicants. You should have a list of non-negotiable qualifications. If your list of qualifications is too basic, you will have to browse through thousands of unqualified applicants. Most college graduates have basic computer knowledge, so you need to list specific requirements. You should list all of the required hardware and software programs. If the applicants do not have the necessary technical skills, the screening software can eliminate the unqualified applicants.

Include a Minimum GPA Requirement

If the position requires specialized skills, your listing should have a minimum GPA requirement. Many employers want new college graduates to have at least a 3.0 GPA. If you do not want to have such a stringent requirement, you may want to consider graduates who have a 3.0 GPA in their major field of study.

Include a Personality Test

The applicants need to have integrity, and they need to blend in with your company’s culture. Some applicants may meet all the qualifications, but their personalities may not be ideal for your work environment. A personality test will ask the applicants several multiple choice questions, and their answers will be rated. The final score will eliminate several applicants.

List the Position on Multiple Job Posting Boards

You should list the position on free and paid websites. If you are looking for new college graduates, you will find thousands of new graduates on free sites. Paid sites usually attract hundreds of experienced applicants.

Include a One Year Experience Requirement

New grads will not have several years of experience in their field, but they should have some basic experience. Most motivated graduates will have worked as interns while they were college students. A few of the applicants may have worked part-time at a similar job for several years.

List the Salary Range

You should list the salary range for entry-level and mid-level positions. When you list the salary range, the qualified applicants will not decline the opportunity after the interview.

Your listing should be informative, and it should say some interesting things about your company. More than 75 percent of job-seekers search for positions online. Almost 50 percent of job-seekers search for positions with their mobile phone. Most new graduates care about retirement benefits, work culture and growth. A recent study found that more than 60 percent of new graduates would take a low salary in a career they love.
